DGS encourages churches both to engage with families with children and to work with young people
and couples before they have children.
Engagement with familes to engage with families having children by visiting, praying for the
parents, the family and the unborn child. Giving the mother a jumper for the new baby to wear home
from hospital after birth.
During the years of DGS Christian nurture, to enage with the families by inviting them to parent visits
to the children’s atriums and making home visits and the times when
children present in church or run family services.
Providing Workshops about new life DGS provides workshops about new life for both teenagers and young
adults and adults preparing to have children, providing stories on
pregnancy experiences and the spiritual depth of little children which helps
participants to have a better knowledge of what the little unborn one
experiences and their growing spiritual awareness.
How to get started
The diocese enters into an MOU with DGS Africa.
DGS Africa provides the training by people who have been fully trained in DGS, who are called
Formation Leaders. These people have to also be guides and work with children using the DGS
approach.
The ones who are trained to work with children in the various DGS stages of development are called
guides and some guides go on to be completely trained and become formation leaders.
It is an expectation that in each diocese there would be some guides who would have a sense of
calling and become formation leaders and the diocese would allow these leaders to help from time to
time in other regions and church denominations to enable DGS to start.
What DGS provides in addition to training at a cost
Manuals for the making of the materials for each atrium.
Album pages or notes for each level in 2 parts.
Specially prepared story books for infants.
Materials for workshops on new life.
Samples of baby jumpers are also made available for knitting groups to make.
What the church and participants provide
The participant purchases the guide Album pages for each level they have training (it is an
expectation that all would do the Level 1 training as it is foundational and also for teen it would be
normal that guides would also do Level 2 and Level 3 as teen is very much an extension of these two
levels.)
On completion of a training level the guide would pay for the completion certificate.
What the church provides
The venue for training and meals. If residential also the cost of accomodation.
Travel expenses for the formation leader and a trainee formation leader who would assist the formation
leader and some out of pocket support for them.
The cost of wooden and paper laminated materials and shelving etc to store them
Materils manuals for each atrium level.
Would assist with the contact with families and the workshops for teens and young adults and a similar
workshop for couples.
To encourage church groups to link up with familes having children and to pray for them and give them
something special for the new baby, such as a coming home jumper and to encourage the mother to come
to the pre-pre atrium.
